Mulch and Ants?

What do they have in common? When purchasing mulch, BEWARE! Ants will gravitate to the bags on the bottom of the pallet where there is more moisture. So pick from the middle of the stack and up. Also, ants are usually more prevalent in mulch that is purchased in bulk than in bags!

Advice on Indoor Ant Control

Ants found indoors may be nesting in the structure itself, or they may just be coming indoors looking for food or water. Whatever the case, there are certain steps your customer can take that will help with indoor ant control:

  • Most ants feed on sweets or meats and greases. Wipe up spills immediately. Clean crumbs and drips from shelves, counters and floors. Don’t overlook hidden areas such as stove vents and drip pans that can collect grease.

Ants: The Spring House Guest No One Wants, But Nearly Everyone Gets

Springtime is ant time as ants march into homes in search of food. With more than 700 species of ants in the U.S. and about two dozen classified as pests, many homeowners will likely encounter these unwelcome visitors.

“Ants are more than a nuisance. They can contaminate food, bite when threatened and damage our property,” noted Missy Henriksen, vice president of public affairs for the National Pest Management Association. “However, which species of ant invades can depend on geography.”
