What is Chikunguny?

It is a viral disease transmitted by Aedes species mosquitoes. The symptoms usually appear 3-7 days after a bite and include fever, joint pain, possible headache, muscle pain, joint swelling and rash. Death is rare and most people feel better within a week. Those reported with the disease had visited Haiti and it’s also appeared in other Carribean nations.

Spiders Responsible for Mazda Recall

Mazda recently recalled 42,000 Mazda 6 sedans for model years 2010-2012, because spiders are getting inside and wreaking havoc. The issue is the spiders weave webs inside a vent hose connected to the fuel tank. This blockage can cause excessive negative pressure in the fuel tank.

There was a second incident involving Toyota in 2013. Spider webs create a blockage in the drain tube from the air conditioning condenser that causes water to drip down onto an airbag control module, causing a short circuit. This is turn, could cause the airbag warning light to come on and even cause the driver’s side airbag to deploy. In some cases, there is a loss of power-steering.

FLEA TRIVIA

Did you know that vacuuming carpets after a flea treatment will help with flea control? The vibration stimulates the fleas to leave their cocoons and pick up the residual of the applied insecticide.

American Cockroach

Sub-zero temperatures alone may affect the German cockroaches but the American roach may survive. The bigger their belly the longer they can survive without food and water. Since the German cockroach is smaller it is easier to transport from infested locations and hide. If food is not available, they can survive on glue and other materials.
